Look, we know many of you have been disappointed by politics. It often feels like a-lot of wind, and no action. But you have REAL POWER... to help set the country’s agenda through the 2012 Election, hence the name of our new election campaign, Power of 12.

Did you know that 45 million 18-29 year olds will be eligible to vote in the 2012 election? Basically, we can be the largest voting bloc in the next presidential election. And we’re not going to fix everything by voting, but we can be the deciding factor in who gets elected and what happens with taxes and how much gets invested in college financial aid and much more.

In the video below, our Power of 12 correspondent Jacob Soboroff explains the Power of 12 a bit more and how MTV is gonna help decode the election for you. Jacob is reporting from Iowa and you might be wondering, Why are the Iowa caucuses so important? “Because Iowa is the first state using its caucus system to vote for president of the United States,” Jacob explains. The Iowa caucuses are also a good lookout as to which presidential candidate might win the nomination for his or her political party. For example, back in ’08, then Senator Barack Obama won the Iowa caucuses and he eventually became our prez. So Iowa can be a good indicator of who might be our next POTUS.
