Celebs Show Obama Some Love for Gay Marriage Announcement

Full_obamaforward

Well- President Obama made it official. He thinks same-sex couples should be able to get married. Since his announcement, support has poured in from celebs. Some were cautiously optimistic about the progress, while others were looking for a bigger legislative commitment from the President. Either way, all agreed that as the first president to come out in support of gay marriage, this was definitely a historic moment.

The Glee cast, including Dianna Agron tweeted, offered up her appreciation, while Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson, tweeted his thanks in the form of a marriage proposal to the prez (with First Lady Michelle Obama’s permission of course). Even Kim Kardashian got in on the action, writing on her website that she was proud to be an American and happy that Obama, and the rest of the country were taking a step in the right direction. Longtime LGBT advocate Lady Gaga echoed Kim’s sentiment, tweeting out that she was pleased with the progress. Even on the other side of the political spectrum, political blogger Meghan McCain wrote that she was very happy about the news that Obama had voiced his support.

Among the many thanks were some calls to action, and some skepticism. “It Gets Better” founder Dan Savage urged everyone to vote in November, while Perez Hilton expressed his cautious optimism about Obama’s move. While Hilton cited that it was progress- he still wished that the prez had come out about it sooner.

We’ve recapped some celeb reactions in the videos below:
