If all the statistics and jargon piled up so high that you can’t even remember what happened during the debate, MTV News presents a list of the top five moments. Here are a few.

+ Big Bird Gets the Sack

Romney brought up PBS as an example of a program that would be cut under his deficit reduction plan. "I'm sorry, Jim,” he said to Jim Lehrer, the moderator. “I'm going to stop the subsidy to PBS and other things. I like PBS. I love Big Bird, and I like you too."

Within moments, Twitter and Tumblr were blowing up with gifs and comments about Big Bird’s upcoming unemployment.

+ Education and Jobs

Romney and Obama disagreed on pretty much everything last night, but education was one issue where they agreed that investment is important. Obama touted his Race to the Top education initiative while Romney said Massachusetts’ high-quality schools are proof that he knows what he’s doing.

+ Romney Goes on the Attack

The media spin was clear: Romney was more aggressive and won the debate. While Obama maintained what some call a professorial air, Romney was attacking from the get go. And when Obama attacked him, he brushed it off and returned fire. In response to an Obama accusation that Romney’s budget plans would end up cutting education, he shot back "I'm not going to cut education funding and grants for people to go to college, let me make that clear. You put your money where your heart is with $90 billion into green energy, money that would have hired 2 million teachers."
