Yesterday’s $40,000 per head Obama fundraiser at Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club was just the most recent happening in Jay-Z and Obama’s long, warm relationship. Ever since Obama was caught on tape brushing the dirt off his shoulder in ’08, the two haven’t missed an opportunity to compliment each other.
Gil Kaufman at MTV News combs through the pair’s history of fuzzy feelings. Back in ’08, Jay-Z couldn’t hold back his enthusiasm for Obama: “Obama's running so that we all can fly ... I can't wait until November 5 and I'm going to say: 'Hello, Brother President'." Obama has returned the favor. At a show in Philadelphia earlier this month Jay-Z aired an Obama “public service announcement” praising the rapper’s work ethic.
