MTV News asked Obama’s and Romney’s traveling press secretaries why young constituents should vote for their bosses, and both made it clear that they think their candidate is the one that will move the youth forward.
Obama press secretary Jennifer Psaki argues that his actions on helping youth get health care coverage and repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell show he’s been fighting for young voters’ priorities. She agrees that the last four years haven’t been easy on young people but says keeping Obama in office is in their best interests. “We know the last four years have been hard... but what we want people to remember is that there's a lot at stake: they could lose access to affordable health care."
Romney’s press secretary Andrea Saul says that what young people need is a better economy and argues that her candidate is the one who can deliver. She said that a Romney economy would be a robust one, helping youth get more jobs. Responding to how Romney would help young voters pay off their college debt, she says “Helping on the student-loan front is not much help if you don't have an income. His plan is to have a vibrant economy, get people back to work [and] we're going to lower tax rates.”
