In last Wednesday’s RapFix Live, guests Machine Gun Kelly and Ryan Leslie made the case for getting involved in local politics. The two agreed that for youth it can feel difficult to make a difference on a national scale. But through local politics and community engagement it’s easier to see how you’re making a difference.
Leslie offered up the example of 22-year-old Michael Tubbs. Tubbs is running for City Council in Stockton, California, an already distressed city that was pummeled during the recession. The young pol got his name out and soon earned $10,000 in support from Oprah Winfrey. "I think that on a very local and individual and personal level, there's a lot that can be done to start rebuilding this nation," Leslie said.
