The Supreme Court announced its ruling on Arizona's controversial immigration law today. The court decided to strike down key parts of the law, but upheld arguably the most controversial part. Opponents of the law were pleased that the majority of it was shot down but their excitement was overshadowed by the fact that Arizona police can still run checks on people's immigration status if they have "reasonable suspicion" that the individual is in the U.S. illegally. Supporters of the law were disappointed that the Supreme Court granted the Federal Government more power and viewed its action as preventing the state of Arizona from protecting its borders efficiently.
